Great start to the season at Baqueira Beret with a sunny weekend and the opening of the Bosque cafeteria
The Val d’Aran and Valls d’Àneu resort has had a first weekend with 30 km of slopes open and 4,500 skiers who have enjoyed some excellent weather and snow depths of up to 50 cm.
One of the main new features this winter is the refurbished Bosque cafeteria at Baqueira 1800, a roomy and comfortable venue which opened on Saturday and proved very popular with skiers.
On Saturday, 18 November Baqueira Beret kicked off the new 2017-18 season with a lot of snow given that there is still a month to go before winter blows in. Baqueira’s central area was open with all ski lifts in operation except the Pla de Baqueira gondola and the TDS (express chairlift). The Bosque, Mirador, Era Cabana and Jorge Jordana TDS and the Esquirós chairlift were all working. In addition the Rabadá ski lifts and the three magic carpets in the beginner area were also available. These lifts enabled the 4,500 skiers and snowboarders who came to the resort over the weekend to access 28 routes with a total of 30 km of runs.
The resort is to stay open on weekdays with the central part of Baqueira available to anyone who wants to have fun on the slopes this November. The special ski pass prices of €30 for adults and €20 for children will be maintained until Friday, 24 November. The ski resort’s staff are working hard to open more runs in time for Saturday the 25th when ski passes will go on sale at their normal price.
The new Bosque cafeteria is a big hit
The excitement last weekend on the runs was not entirely on the snow. The centrally-located Bosque cafeteria has been one of the attractions of the first days of the season and the result of its total remodelling is spectacular.
The venue is spacious, cosy and comfortable. It has a free-flow service so that diners can see and choose what they are going to eat with total convenience. The changes have obviously meant saying goodbye to the old self-service option and sandwich area.
The new Bosque cafeteria features a relaxed atmosphere in a spacious venue with tables and chairs with different heights and even a cosy area equipped with a fireplace as in the Baqueira Grill 5J. An added bonus is that there are four tills in the free-flow area to prevent queues building up when going to pay. People looking for sandwiches will find them in the same food area.
As it is a facility designed for families, there is also a crepes and waffles area in the bar area. In addition to the dining room, part of the remodelling has been designed to make life easier for customers and now skiers will find other details such as the main terrace and the dining room being on the same level.
Baqueira Beret skiers are sure to love the new, more easily accessible terrace. Besides the main entrance, which gives on to the Baqueira Store, there is a new covered entry to go directly to the toilets or enter the cafeteria. Likewise the sandwich bar has now gone to be replaced by a large viewing area where people can stop off for a snack or tuck into their food while taking in some excellent views.
In addition to the remodelling of the venue the food range has also been revamped and its commitment to quality is reflected in new tempters such as pizzas, char-grilled meat and dishes of the day made in a kitchen that has also been enlarged.
