Christmas with lots of snow at Baqueira Beret

Christmas with lots of snow at Baqueira Beret

Around 150,000 skiers have sped across the snow at the Val d’Aran and Valls d’Àneu resort between 25 December and Sunday 7 January. The weather has been unsettled but all the skiable kilometres and ski lifts were available on most days during the Christmas holidays.

From spectacular snowfall just before the end of the year to mild temperatures during Epiphany week, Christmas always brings variable weather conditions. The Val d’Aran and Valls d’Àneu resort has been open every day of the holidays with an average of 130 skiable kilometres and practically all its ski lifts in operation. This meant the approximately 150,000 skiers who visited the resort between 25 December and 7 January were able to have fun right across the open skiable area covering2,166 hectares at Baqueira, Beret and Bonaigua.

The largest crowds came to the resort on 30 December which saw around 21,000 skiers on the runs. Beret’s free 7-kilometre cross-country skiing circuit has also been open during the fortnight’s holiday. The snowpark spent a few days being rebuilt after the heavy snow on 27 and 28 December.

During the week of 25 December the Clot Der Os Funpark was opened, a thematic circuit for children at Beret featuring figures and geometric elements for kids to interact with along with models of typical local animals scattered among the trees and banks of this attraction.

Christmas activities have proved very popular with skiers over the two weeks. They included Santa Claus’s arrival and in particular the torch descent on New Year’s Eve with over 400 participants and the spectacular Three Kings cavalcade which was a great success with large crowds gathered at level 1500.

As for restaurants, the thematic venues such as the Refugio San Miguel, the 5J Grill Baqueira and the Moët Winter Lounge have been packed. The new Bosque Cafeteria at Baqueira 1800 has also been operating flat out as its large size provided shelter for numerous skiers on the days of heavy snowfall while they tucked in at the self-service or had a coffee.
